Collecting Data Before and After a Project Will Validate Your Process and Provide Utility Companies with Modeling for Rebate Incentives.

When embarking on a utility system engineering project, in order to properly assess existing systems such as compressed air, steam, chilled water, hot water, nitrogen, vacuum, hydraulics, and HVAC, it’s crucial to do accurate pre-metering. This provides a baseline model of the efficiency of existing systems and helps to project potential efficiency gains resulting from future improvements.

Pre-Metering

Advancements in metering technology have enabled engineers to meter fluid and airflows, temperature variations, and power. Much of the metering we do is accomplished without shutdowns, through means such as hot taps, ultrasonics and infrared metering.

When these pre-metered variables are put into spreadsheets, we can calculate KWH, cfm, BTUs, and create accurate demand and efficiency profiles. Savings produced by new engineering designs can then be reliably predicted.

After project completion, the same metering and data collection process is employed to document the energy savings. It’s rewarding when the post metering results validate the investment to our customers.

We’ve found that when negotiating utility incentives on our customers’ behalf, possessing hard data from pre-metering gives utility companies confidence to justify increased incentive amounts.
